"Music is a more potent instrument than any other for education, because rhythm and harmony find their way into the inward places of the soul"- Plato

Meditation+Music+Mandala Workshop

Grades 2-12

The circle is a powerful symbol. In music the circle of fifths is used to visually represent  the relationships among the 12 tones of the chromatic scale. In alchemy the circle represents the philosophers stone which has the power to transform any material into gold. The Sanskrit word "Mandala" means circle. In many eastern traditions the Mandala represents the universe, balance and harmony.

This introductory workshop is designed to help students engage in deep relaxation and healing through sound and art. Participants experience the resonant healing tones of a sound bath, then are guided out of the sound bath with a variety of breathing and vocal exercises. The next phase of the workshop invites participants to design there own Mandala based on their unique experience. Participants then engage in a group discussions reflecting on their Mandala drawing, giving clarity and creating community around this shared experience.
